Chaudhary urges Centre for pay parity of RRBs with Commercial banks

Patna, Apr 12 (UNI) Bihar Assembly Speaker Udai Narain Chaudhary today urged the Centre to ensure that employees of Regional Rural Banks(RRBs) get their pay and other perks at par with the personnel of commercial banks.

Inaugurating the general council meeting of All India Gramin Bank Employees' Officers' Association(AIBEA), Mr Chudhary said the employees of RRBs were demanding pay parity with commercial banks personnel since long and it should be given due consideration by the Centre without further loss of time.

Expressing his concern over low Credit-Deposit ratio of RRBs in Bihar, Mr Chuadhary said they should strive for bringing it on par with national average.'' The contribution of rural banks in boosting the performance of agriculture sector was vital,'' he said, adding they could also play an important role in improving the condition of people living in rural areas.

''With assistance of loans and other banking facilities, RRBs could help the rural youths in establishing their own business establishments,'' he noted.

Speaking on the occasion, AIBEA General Secretary C H Venkatachalam favoured the merger of RRBs with commercial banks.

''If the commercial banks take over the RRBs alongwith its human resources, we can provide the banking facilities of 21st century like ATM and Core Banking in rural areas,'' he added.
