Lecturer gets Rs 22.82 lac for research from BARC

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 12: The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, has sanctioned research grant of Rs 22.82 lakh to one Sadiq Bukhari, zoology professor at Jamal Mohamed College here, to work on 'evaluation of effect of ionisation radiation dose on aquatic biota.' A college release here said the outcome of the project, dealing with the estimation of radiation doses received by organisms and the relationship between absorbed radiation dose rates and its damaging effects on aquatic organisms, would be useful to develop environmental guidelines in the country.

Dr Bukhari would be the principal investigator and lecturer H E Syed Mohamed would be the co-investigator. BARC's Health, Safety and Environmental Group Director H S Kushwaha would act as Chairman.

The college recently signed an MoU with the BARC for the three-year project, the release added.
