Vote counting begins,Nepali Congress wins in Kathmandu constituency

Kathmandu, Apr 11 (UNI) Nepali Congress candidate Prakash Man Singh won the election in Kathmandu constituency 1 by garnering over 14,315 votes.

His nearest rival Eduation Minister and UML's Pradeep Nepal bagged over 6000 and Maoists' Ram Man Shrestha got 3898 votes.

Prakash Man Singh, who had lost election two times in Kathmandu in the past, is the son of Nepali Congress founder late Ganesh Man Singh.

Vote counting in other constituencies in Kathmandu and other parts of the country is underway.

Maoists chairman Prachand is the candidte in Kathmandu constituency 10 and CPN, UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal from constituency 2.

Prachand is also contesting from Rolpa in western Nepal and Mr Nepal from Rautahat in central Terai.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Mission in Nepal has called on the political parties and leaders to accept the people's decision reflected through the Constituent Assembly election, which it said was conducted, by and large, in a peaceful and orderly manner.

''Political parties and their leaders now need to ensure that they accept the people's decision through this election, or where they have challenges in relation to the process to pursue these through the proper legal channels,'' states a statement issued by Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and UNMIN chief Ian Martin.
