Upgradation of J J Hospital delayed due to PIL: Minister

Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) The upgradation of the government run J J Hospital is being delayed due to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed at the Bombay High Court and will commence after the court hurdle is over.

Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Dilip Walse Patil informed this in the legislative council today and said that a PIL has been filed at the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High court, demanding upgradation of the Nagpur Medical college instead of J J Hospital.

He said that the Union Government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the upgradation of the J J Hospital and state has also sanctioned Rs 20 crore but the delay has occurred due to the court proceedings.

Mr Patil also stated that the state has decided to sanction Rs 100 crore for the upgradation of Nagpur Medical College and the work of upgradation of the same will commence shortly after completion of the formalities.

The issue of delay was raised by Dr Deepak Sawant (Shiv Sena), who wanted to know the reasons for the delay in upgradation of the hospital despite the funds being allocated by the Union and State governments.
