Sarkozy syndrome grips middle-aged men

London, Apr 11 (UNI) French president Nicholas Sarkory has become an epitome for middle-aged men in their quest for eternal youth.

Men with younger partners are increasingly opting for cosmetic surgery to erase the signs of ageing and get a youthful look. This phenomenon is being termed as 'Sarkozy syndrome'.

Although there is no suggestion that the 53-year-old Sarkozy underwent cosmetic surgery either prior or since his marriage to much younger former model Carla Brun, experts believe that he is having an influence on demand, a daily mail report said.

Sarkozy Syndrome refers to men who are motivated to investigate surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation procedures due to their partner's youthful appearence, especially after a second marriage, Harley Medical Group director Liz Dale said.

A fifth of all patients at the Harley Medical Group, which has 11 clinics nationwide, were men and most of them cited a second marriage as their key motivation, Ms Dale said.

Men in the age bracket of 35 to 55 were opting for Botox to smooth fine lines, as well as surgical procedures like facelifts and eyelid surgery.

Men in their 40s were more likely to opt for Botox, while those in their 50s were more likely to choose eyelid surgery or face lifts, she said.
