PPP-led Gilani govt to expose Musharraf regime's economic mismanagement

Islamabad, Apr 11 : The new PPP-led government in Pakistan has decided to form a parliamentary committee to expose how the Pervez Musharraf's regime had misled the country through lies and misstatements during the past eight years.

The country's new Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the committee would cover all the ministries and departments to tell the people how havoc was played with them while the previous government persisted with portraying that it had brought about a revolution in Pakistan.

"Instead of promptly sending errant former ministers and officials behind the bars, we will publicly dissect the falsehoods, untruths and bloated claims about economic wonders through a parliamentary committee," The News quoted him as saying.

He said that the parliamentary body would immediately start collecting facts and figures from different official sources to present the real picture to the people.

Another cabinet member said: "The outgoing administration just lived on the jugglery of words without doing anything worthwhile on concrete basis."

He further said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar's exposition of lies of the previous government about the federal budget on Wednesday was part of the plan to lay before the people the amount of economic mismanagement done by the Shaukat Aziz administration contrary to its tall claims.

The minister said that the stage of prosecuting those who had committed financial frauds would come later. In the first place, he said public description of the deliberate lies and concealment about the state of the economy would be highlighted.

He added that the body would not only hold public hearings to bring the real picture to the knowledge of the common people but would also involve parliament and its committees and brief them on its findings.
