NC candidate wins Constituency-1 in Nepal

Kathmandu, Apr 11: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-President Prakash Man Singh on Friday won the election in Kathmandu -1 constituency. Singh garnered over 14,315 votes. According to nepalnews.com, Singh defeated Unified Marxist Leninist (UML's) Pradeep Nepal, who bagged over 6000 and Maoists' Ram Man Shrestha who bagged 3898 votes.

The result was announced this morning as Electronic Voting Machines were only used in this constituency during the Constituent Assembly (CA) election. Meanwhile, counting of votes is underway in other districts, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Banke.

Kathmandu, Apr 12: The Election Commission of Nepal has ordered fresh election in 60 polling centres in 16 constituencies across the Himalayan country. ''Polling could be rescheduled in a few more places,'' EC spokesperson Laxman Prasad Bhattarai said yesterday, adding that booth capturing, damaging and torching of ballot boxes and papers were some of the reasons that led to the re-election. United Nations, Apr 12 The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour, has congratulated the people of Nepal for the successful holding of Constituent Assembly elections, saying she particularly welcomed the large and enthusiastic participation of women in the polls.
