New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today allowed the 3000 candidates whose applications were earlier ineligible, to appear in the Assistant teachers (Muncipal Corporation of Delhi schools) examination, scheduled for April 20.
The court directed the Delhi Government, MCD and the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) to allow the nearly 43,000 candidates, whose applications were rejected on the ground that they did not had the requisite 50 per cent marks, to appear in the examination. However, their results could be withheld till the disposal of the matter.
Justice Sanjive Khanna has allowed the petitons of the candidates who have challanged the Government's criteria in assessing the minimum qualification of the candidates and said they should be allowed to appear in the forthcoming exams.
Acting on the 11 petitions filed by lawyer Ashok Aggarwal, the court fixed July 17 as the next date of hearing and asked the Government to allow the candidates to appear in the examination.
Mr Aggarwal said according to the rules, a candidate with an aggregate of minimum 50 per cent marks was eligible to appear in the test. However, the authorities wrongly calculated the 50 per cent criteria by taking into account the aggregate of seven subjects whereas only best five subjects had to be considered while evaluating the minimum eligibilty.
The marks of all those candidates, who had improved their aggregate percentage by appearing in improvement tests, have also not been considered by the evaluating authorities, Mr Aggarwal said, seeking that the candidates may be allowed to appear in the exams as very less time is left for the same.
