Haryana assistance to MMTC refinery

Chandigarh, Apr 11: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today assured all assistance of the State Government to the Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation (MMTC) in setting up of its world class medallion unit and refinery for bullion, with a leading international company, near Sohna in the state.

This unit is expected to be operational in later part of the year 2009. The Chief Minister was replying to the questions of mediapersons shortly after inaugurating MMTC's "Festival of Gold" exhibition, India's largest gold and jewellery show, here today. Mr Hooda said that the unit of the MMTC would help in providing employment opportunities to the people in the State.

In reply to another question regarding setting up of industrial units in backward areas of the State, Mr Hooda said that about 70 development blocks have been declared as backward. The Government has been providing a number of incentives for the industrial units being set up in these backward areas of the State.

Earlier, while speaking on the occasion, Mr Hooda was all praise for MMTC for maintaining purity of gold and enabling the consumers to get a variety of tested and hallmarked jewellery. MMTC has an annual turnover of Rs 25,000 crore,he added.

The Chief Minister was taken around the exhibition by Director (Marketing), MMTC, Mr Adarsh Goyal, Chief General Manager (Marketing) Mr Asheesh Majumdar and Chief General Manager (Corporate Communication), Ms Preeti Kaur. Mr Hooda evinced keen interest in the designs of some of the ornaments displayed at the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open up to April 14. The 'Festival of Gold' at Chandigarh is in continuation of similar exhibitions held earlier at Delhi,Kolkata,Goa,Mumbai and Bangalore.

Nuclear power plant work to start soon: PM

Hisar, May 19: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today announced that work on the nuclear power plant at Fathebad district in Haryana would start soon and described this as a step towards achieving self- sufficiency in energy. ''A site has been identified in Fatehabad district of Haryana and work for setting up a nuclear power plant there would start at the earliest," Dr Manmohan Singh said addressing a public rally at Barwala near here......
