Govt waives Rs 27 crore agricultural loan: Puducherry CM

Puducherry, Apr 11 (UNI) The Puducherry administration had waived agricultural loan to the tune of Rs 27 crore, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a question, Mr Rangasamy said the Union Government has waived the agricultural loan to the tune of Rs 60,000 crore and the loan in the Union Territory would be waived, after ascertaining details and guidlines from the Centre.

The Chief Minister said after the waiver of Rs 27 crore, the administration had provided Rs five crore to the cooperative bank last year and proposed to provide Rs 7.5 crore this year.

The administration would also consider to write off the loan, interest and penal interest in cooperative housing societies here, he added.

To another question, Industries Minister V Vaithilingam on behalf of Health Minister E Valsaraj, said steps would be taken to introduce biopsy facilities in Karaikal Government General Hospital.

Pathology department would be created and vacancies would be filled up later, as it is impossible now because of the ban order, he added.

To a supplementary, Mr Rangasamy intervened and said the vacancies for doctors would soon be filled up and out of 20 doctors reported here from UPSC, five were deputed to Karaikal.
