Subsidy to hotels for devp of tourism: Govt

Puducherry,Apr 11: The Puducherry administration was taking steps to provide a subsidy of Rs one crore to star hotels here to develop tourism, Minister for Tourism, Malladi Krishna Rao told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a question, Mr.Rao said the subsidy scheme was pending before the government for approval and it would be provided to the beneficieries before May this year. As many as 33 Institutions had set up their hotels here and applied for subsidy, he added.

To another question, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the administration had not granted licence to conduct prize chits and money circulation schemes.

Mr Rangasamy said, however, two people were arrested on separate complaints. The district registrar for Puducherry region and deputy registrar for other three regions were entrusted with the responsibility to implement prize chits and money circulation scheme(Banning ) Act, 1978, he added.

Pondy: Functioning of OPD affected in JIPMER

Puducherry, May 21: Functioning of the out-patients department in the centrally administered JIPMER hospital was affected for about one-and-a-half hours this morning as the medical records department staff resorted to a strike. Accoridng to JIPMER sources, the registration of out-patients at the hospital was from 0800 hrs to 1030 hrs. The management on Saturday last asked the medical record staffs to begin the registration from 0730 hrs today. The staff contended that a decision.....
