Ex-union minister gives OBC reservation credit to UPA

Lucknow, Apr 11 (UNI) Applauding the Supreme Court's verdict on reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions, former union minister and CWC invited member Anil Shastri today said the UPA government at the Centre was committed to reducing the grievances of the poor.

''The decision of providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in central educational institutions indicates that the UPA government wish to uplift the dalits and poor,'' Mr Shastri said.

Congratulating Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh for his hard efforts, the former minister noted, ''it is a balance step to do justice to both candidates of poor and general class.'' The OBCs should also be provided 27 per cent reservation in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha, he added.

Canberra, Dec 28: An influx of Chinese spies has forced Australia's home espionage agency into a recruiting drive to counter the threat as well as that posed by Muslim extremists, a newspaper report said today. The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has doubled the number of foreign-language speakers in its ranks since 2004, with most newcomers fluent in Chinese, the Australian daily reported, citing unnamed sources. BEIJING, Dec 18: Chinese authorities have closed down a factory producing fake birth-control pills out of starch and glucose and arrested one person, media reports said.Tests by the Food and Drug Administration on the southern island of Hainan found not only that the pills were useless in preventing pregnancy but also contained toxic ingredients, the Beijing News said.''The fake contraceptive medicines and abortion drugs have greatly harmed women's physical and mental health,'' it said, citing an expert......
