Doctor admits witholding information on Glasgow Airport bomb attack

London, Apr 11 (UNI) Indian doctor Sabeel Ahmed has admitted failing to warn the authorities after he learned his brother was planning the car bomb attack on Glasgow Airport in 2007.

Ahmed, 26, pleaded guilty today during a hearing at the Old Bailey in London, to withholding information from police about the suicide mission, when a Jeep Cherokee filled with propane canisters was driven into the airport terminal and set alight.

The burning vehicle failed to break through the glass doors and no one was harmed in the incident on June 30 last year.

Sabeel Ahmed, whose brother Kafeel Ahmed was the driver of the jeep, had received an email from his brother and details of his will before the attack.

Originally from Bangalore in India, Ahmed was arrested in Liverpool on June 30 and later charged under the Terrorism Act 2000.

He was the third person to be charged in the investigation and two other men, accused of conspiracy to cause explosions, will face trial later this year.

On June 29 2007 two cars containing petrol, gas cylinders and mobile phone detonators were discovered in central London. The next day the burning car was driven into the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport.

Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw told the court that the attack was intended to be a suicide mission after earlier attacks on the capital had failed.

He said, ''one assumes that the nature of the attack in terms of what was planned had changed because of the failed attempts in London.'' UNI XC SLD AS1953
