Common man not severely affected by inflation : Congress

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The Congress today said the commonman was not severely affected due to rising inflation because the increase in prices of food articles was marginal during the week ended March 29, when the inflation has shot up to 7.38 per cent from seven7 per cent.

"When the wholesale Price Index has gone up to the extent of 8.89 per cent, the increase in food articles was only 0.4 per cent,'' AICC Spokesman Manish Tewari told mediapersons.

Listing out the various measures that the UPA government had taken to rein in prices, Mr Tewari said, "We have been constantly monitoring the price situation. We have already initiated several macro-economic measures. When all these measures start fructifying, you will see the change." He said the commonman was not severely affected as an effective public distribution system was in place.
