New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) will get defence land on lease hold basis at a nominal rent of Re 1 per annum for an initial period of 30 years for opening central schools in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.
The transfer of defence land to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan which was cleared by the Cabinet today included 6,48 acres for setting up Central School at Dappar Military Station in Patiala district of Punjab, 9.256 acres for KVS school at Bandral Kalan Village of Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district, 13.56 acres at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh and 4.929 acres at Kalimpong in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
Briefing newspersons, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said the schools would benefit the children of defence personnel.
Till now, there was no Kendriya Vidyalaya or any other school at Kalimpong in West Bengal. The lease of land in all the cases would be renewble up to two like terms of 30 years each, he said.
At Dharamshal, the Defence Ministry would also make available 11 buildings to the KVS to run and operate the school for which the KVS would pay Rs 6,98,986 to the government. In case of demolition, the KVS would also pay the book value less than the net proceeds accruing out of disposal/demolition in accordance with the MES regulations.
