Bridge Camp to eradicate child labour, illiteracy

Hyderabad, Apr 11 (UNI) Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Private Limited today announced that it would be funding the development of a Bridge Camp in the city over a three-year period to be operated by the M V Foundation for eradication of child labour in India, according to Managing Director V Laxmikanth.

The M V Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation inspired by Magsaysay Award winner Dr Shantha Sinha, had developed a unique approach to deal with the twin problems of child labour and illiteracy by getting children to enroll in Residential Bridge Camps (RBC).

RBC provides a learning platform for children, who had been involved in bonded and non-bonded labour activities, to train and groom them selves to enroll into formal schools.

Over the past 15 years the RBC program had expanded to over 500 villages and nearly 1,50,000 children had been through the programmes and enrolled in schools.

With support from the Broadridge, M V Foundation now plans to extend its programme to its First Ever Urban Residential Bridge Camp at Chandrayanagutta in the city.

The camp's aim was to transform the lives of children through residential-based training and education.
