11 Tamil refugees arrive

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Apr 11 (UNI) Eleven Sri Lankan Tamils, including three children, today arrived at Arichalmunai seashore, here in view of fierce battle between the Lankan forces and LTTE.

Official sources said the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees comprising four families, hailing from Mannar and Vavuniya regions in the island nation, arrived here with the assistance of two clandestine boat operators.

After preliminary investigations by Tamil Nadu Intelligence and Revenue officials, they were sent to the Special Refugee Camp at Mandapam, near here.

Meanwhile, another batch of five Lankan nationals, including a female child, took refuge at the Special Refugee Camp in Mandapam, today.

The Sri Lankans, hailing from Mannar and Jaffna regions in the island nation, arrived in Tamil Nadu recently with valid documents.

They arrived here this evening and registered their names with the authorities of the camp, the sources added.

REC sees PBT at Rs 1,300cr for FY08

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd today said the provisional financial highlights for the year 2007-08 showed it profit before tax (PBT) increase by 29.22 per cent for to Rs 1,300 crore as against Rs 1,006 crore last year. Its loan sanctions increased 84.55 per cent to Rs 60,764 crore for FY08 as against Rs 32,925 crore a year ago. Loan disbursement increased 18.72 per cent to Rs 16,303 crore during 2007-08.....

India will continue to help Nepalese people

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) India will continue its involvement in Nepal and help the people there consolidate democracy after yesterday's historic elections passed off peacefully, top diplomatic sources said here today. Describing the elections as ''great achievement'' by the Nepalese people, the sources said the issue now would be very different after the initial euphoria. 12.2 per cent growth in tourist arrival in 2008

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The arrival of foreign tourists to India has gone up by 12.2 per cent during the first three months of the current year. As many as 1.65 million tourists visited the country during January-March this year as compared to 1.47 million during the same period last year.
