TNPHCCWA to stop construction protesting price hike

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Contractors Welfare Association (TNPHCCWA) today decided to stop the construction works of the Corporation from April 20 onwards protesting against the hike in prices of building materials, especially cement and steel.

Talking to newspersons here, Association President K Mathew and the Secretary R Ponnusamy said here a resolution to this effect was adopted at the state executive meeting.

They said recently the prices had gone up between Rs 17,000 and Rs 20000 per tonne of steel, and similarly the prices of other building materials had also been increased.

They said Rs 120 crore worth contsruction works were in progress at different places of Tamil Nadu. About 100 contractors were depended on the construction works of the TNPHC, they added.

The meeting was urge held to the Central and state governments to roll back the hike in price of steel and cement.
