Tata to invest Rs 500 Cr for telecom infrastructure in Northeast

Kolkata, Apr 10 (UNI) Tata Teleservices Ltd today signed an MoU with Assam Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd for an investment of Rs 500 crore form TTSL to exchange information, knowledge, intelligence, competence and support to each other on a long term basis.

The two companies signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Jorehat in presence of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, a TTSL communique said.

The partnership, titled JAAL (the Net), was aimed at upgrading, enhancing and establishing a leadership position for the industrial economy of Assam.

The JAAL sought to act as a developmental tool in Assam to develop world-class services and infrastructure through both public and private participation with an objective to generate wealth and employment opportunities in Assam and other parts of the Northeast.

Tata will invest Rs 500 crore over a period of three years for creating a robust telecom infrastructure across the Northeast, including Assam.

As per the MoU, Tata Teleservices will promote and invest in the development of telecommunications in all industrial estates/units, subsidiary companies, corporations, commercial business owned, partnered and licensed by the Department of Industry and Commerce, industrial exports and trade for the growth of Assam.

TTSL will also promote local entrepreneurs to set up and manage the sale of telecommunication-related services.

The company will highlight the industrial potential of the state wherever possible, while participating in national/international expos, road shows, conferences&workshops, through developing innovative collaterals from time to time as per its commercial objectives.
