SUCI leader commits suicide;Police gear up investigation

Puri, Apr 10 (UNI) Police today geared up investigation after a person, who allegedly committed suicide in a guest house here yesterday, was identified as Bidhan Chatterjee, a veteran SUCI leader from West Bengal.

Police said Mr Chatarjee had entered his address in the guest house register as Bikash Chakraborty of Kolkata.

While the sea beach police were waiting for information from their Kolkata counterpart Raghunath Das, a state SUCI functionary arrived here and identified the deceased as the veteran SUCI leader.

Soon after identification, police intensified the investigation to ascertain the cause of the suicide by furnishing of false identification by the deceased in the visitor register of the guest house.

According to police, the deceased had checked into the guest house here on the Wednesday. The manager of the guest house informed police when Mr Chatarjee did not respond to the call of the room attendant.

Police later broke upon the door and found him hanging form the ceiling fan.

Puri Superintendent of Police Asit Kumar Panigrahi saidthe police were still waiting for the official report from the Kolkata police.
