Railways orders inquiry into cheating case

Hubli, Apr 10 (UNI) South Western Railway Genral Manager Praveen Kumar today said that a departmental inquiry has been ordered to go into the cheating of of 84 rural aspirants with rs 1.13 crore by Chief Ticket Collector S Siddaiah.

Mr Praveenkumar told reporters here today that siddaiah had allegedly pocketed the money promising them jobs in D group in 20007.

He said that since police are investigating in the matter, SWR will extend all cooperation to them.

Gadag-Bijapur guage conversions will be thrown open to traffic at the fag end of May 2008, he said.

He said that Rs 1000 crore has been earmarked in the current budget for the developments in SWR and complete guage conversion and doubling of main lines of Hospet, Londa-Margao, Bangalore-Tumkur, Bangalore-Ramanagar, Mysore-Chamrajnagar.

He said that the works will be completed by 2009.

Shifting of Hubli-Goods shed to Navalooru (Suburb of Hubli-Dharwad twin cities) will be completed by July 2008, he said.

Four Southern Rly officials convicted for cheating

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) A special CBI court today convicted four officials of the Southern Railways for entering into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the department in payment of road tax and maintenance of vehicles. Additional City Civil and Sessions (Special) CBI Judge Sudhakar Pandit handed down three years' rigorous imprisonment to former senior clerk M K Nagendra Kumar while Assistant Engineer Anantharamu, Executive Engineer G N Rao and Assistant Bridge Engineer S Ramanujan.....

SC clears decks for 27 pc quota in IIMS, IITS, AIIMS

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) In a historic decision, the Supreme Court today cleared the decks for implementing 27 per cent quota for OBCs in Centrally-run institutions of higher education by upholding the legality of the 93rd Constitutional Amendment. Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh promptly welcomed the apex court's ruling as vindication of his stand as well as that of the UPA government's stand and said his ministry would like to see.....

Two Judges, 1 Additional Judge For Andhra HC

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The appointment of two Andhra Pradesh High Court Judges and an Additional Judge by President Pratibha Patil was announced by the Law and Justice Ministry today. The announcement said Additional Judges Nooty Ramamohana Rao and Chinthala Venkata Nagarjuna Reddy have been appointed Judges in that order of seniority. It also contained the appointment of Additional Judge Reddi Kantha Rao for two years. All appointments will take effect from the respective dates.....
