Post offices in TN to sell Deccan's air tickets

Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) Deccan, a part of the UB Group-owned Kingfisher Airlines, has extended its partnership with India Post to offer flight bookings at post officies across Tamil Nadu from tomorrow.

This is the second such initative after India Post had made the service available first in Karnataka.

Talking to newspersons here today, Deccan Executive Chairman Capt G R Gopinath said leveraging this vast network, Deccan would make available flight bookings at 247 internet-enabled post offices in Tamil Nadu.

''Our tie up with India Post will realise the aspirations of both organisations in terms of reaching out to more consumers and is closely tied with the growth of air travel in the State,'' he added.

He said the post offices were located across Tamil Nadu in cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and smaller towns and districts such as Perambalur, Thanjavur, Mannargudi, Neyveli, Vriddachalam, Voraiyur, Dindigul and Coonoor.

Capt Gopinath informed that according to the agreement, India Post would collect five per cent service charge for each ticket from the customers.

He disclosed that this service would be extended to Maharashtra and Rajasthan within a couple of months. ''We have already held discussions with India Post to extend air ticket servicing to Maharashtra and Rajasthan.'' Principal Chief Postmaster General Indira Krishnakumar said Deccan air tickets would be available through 247 post offices, including 93 head post offices and 46 post offices in the city. The service would be extended to other post offices in the second phase.

''Two persons from each post office have been trained to handle both booking and cancellation of Deccan air tickets,'' she said.

Small molecule drug may help treat hormone-accelerated breast cancer

Washington, January 29 (ANI): University of Missouri scientists in the United States say that a small molecule drug has the potential as a novel chemotherapeutic treatment for breast cancer accelerated by the hormone progestin.The researchers have revealed that the drug called PRIMA-1 targets the most common mutated gene, p53, in human cancer cells."We demonstrated that PRIMA-1 was an effective drug to treat and prevent emergence of progestin-accelerated mammary tumors in rats," said Salman Hyder, professor of biomedical sciences.....
