Fuse wire creates panic in Anantnag

Srinagar Apr 10: Panic gripped in a village in south Kashmir district of Anantnag after a live fuse was found yesterday, official sources said today.

They said police immediately sealed the entire area and rescued the local residents to safer places.

Later a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) from District Police Lines (DPL), Anantnag destroyed the fuse without causing any damage.

People in about a dozen villages around the Khandroo, where thousands of Bofors and other shells were destroyed in August last year in a devastating fire in Field Ordinance Depot. The fire and blasts also claimed the lives of more than 20 peokple, including Army personnel.

Later, about 100 Army BDS from different parts of the country defused the unexploded shells in about a dozen villages adjacent to Khandroo depot.

Shia mourners wounded, arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 28: Dozens of Shia mourners were wounded as police resorted to baton-charge and lobbed teargas shells to prevent them from taking out a procession on the eighth Muharram here today.Scores of mourners, including JKLF leader Javed Ahmed Mir, were arrested by police here for violating the prohibitory orders.The Jammu and Kashmir government has imposed a ban on Muharram processions in Srinagar city after militancy erupted in the Kashmir valley in 1989.Former moderate Hurriyat.....
