Sangrur, Apr 10 (UNI) A 'mentally sick' woman strangulated her three-year-old nephew to death in village Khapekhar Kalan in the district yesterday, police tody said.
According to police, the child Arshad, had sought some money from his grand-parents for buying toffee and was going out when his aunt Saroj Khan, called him in and strangled his neck with a draw-string killing him on the spot.
At the time of the incident, the child's father Sagar Khan had gone to work in the fields while his pregnant mother was away at her parent's house for delivery.
The family, quietly buried the child's body and sent Saroj, who they claimed was mentally unstable, to her father's house in village Kaleke in Barnala district.
However, police came to know of the incident and arrested Saroj today after registering a case under section 302 IPC against her.
The child' body was exhumed in presence of the magistrate and sent for post mortem in Sunam civil hospital, police said.
