New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The Jamia Millia Islamia today launched its senior secondary Urdu-medium school for girls which will have an all-women faculty.
To be called the Jamia Girls Senior Secondary School, the school will have teachers trained through the Urdu-medium methodology.
''At the senior secondary level, it will focus exclusively on science and computers and there will be no age limit for women wishing to continue their education, '' a Jamia spokesperson said.
Planning Commission member Saiyeda S Hameed inaugurated the school.
Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hasan announced that 10 per cent seats will be reserved for students from economically weak families.
The school will offer admissions for Classes IX and XI in 2008.
It will employ 16 new teachers trained in Urdu medium.
''It has been found that while there are Government-funded Urdu medium schools, most do not have teachers trained through the Urdu medium. Most such schools offer Hindi as a medium of education and use Hindi textbooks instead of Urdu ones,'' she said.
The new school at Jamia will cater especially to those who seek education through the Urdu medium but had to drop out of the mainstream formal education due to various reasons.
It will function in the evening shift and will be housed in the Jamia school campus and funded by the Jamia's own resources.
