'Jalayagnam' projects to continue: AP CM

Hyderabad, Apr 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the irrigation projects under 'Jalayagnam' would be continued in the state till all the projects taken up in Telangana region were completed.

While reviewing the progress of the irrigation projects in Telangana region before leaving for Nalgonda, he said the government had earmarked more funds for development of the backward areas in the state.

Dr Reddy said in view of various developmental activities taken up by the government in Telangana region, large areas were getting irrigated water and the government was able to construct more houses, distribute pensions and enhance educational facilities in the region.

The Chief Minister said the government had earmarked 50 per cent of its funds for irrigation in the Telangana region.

He said the government had taken up Pranahita-Chevalla irrigation projects at an estimated cost of Rs 20,000 crore to provide irrigated water to Adilabad, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak and Ranga Reddy districts. The government would complete the project in four years, he added.
