J D (U) favours reservation for creamy layers also

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) Welcoming the judgment of the Supreme Court upholding the 27 per cent reservation for the Other Backward Classes, the Janata Dal (United) today said that the Court should allow reservation for the 'so called creamy layers' also.

J D (U) General Secretary and spokesman Shambhu Srivastava supporting the inclusion of wards of the creamy layers for reservation for admissions and employment said in a statement that the total per centage of OBCs in Central Government employment was a mere 5.21 per cent and no purpose would be served by excluding this section of society.

Jamshedpur, Aug 29: Amidst tight security arrangements and boycott threat by Maoists, polling in 1,263 booths for by-election in Jamsedpur Loksabha constituency began peacefully this morning. Reports from the Election Control Room here said the polling began at 0700 hours in slow pace and about 10 to 15 per cent voting was reported in the first half. Reports from naxalite-affected Ghatshila Assembly constituency said about 10 per cent voters exercised their franchise while in Baharagora Assembly constituency adjacent to the Orissa border,.....

Polling gets underway in Pak Presidential polls

Islamabad, Oct 6: Polling for the Pakistan presidential election got underway here today at Parliament House and all four provincial assemblies amid unprecedented security measures. President Pervez Musharraf, who is seeking a fresh mandate, Pakistan People's Party's Makhdoom Amin Fahim, lawyer's candidate Justice (retd) Wajihuddin and Faryal Talpur are in the fray. Special sessions of Parliament as well as the respective provincial assemblies have been convened for polling which would continue from 1000 hrs till 1500 hrs.
