IT raids yield Rs 2 cr unaccounted cash

Nagpur, Apr 10 (UNI) Unaccounted cash of around Rs two crore and jewellery and fixed deposit receipts worth over Rs one crore, were recovered today in searches conducted by Income tax sleuths at premises of nine prominent doctors in the city.

Commissioner of Income Tax for Vidarbha D V Dharmik said simultaneous raids were conducted on eight hospital premises, two hospital-cum-residential premises and seven residences. Over 150 officers and staff were involved in the operation, which is expected to continue for two more days.

The department has also sealed 12 bank lockers belonging to the doctors.

The raiding party recovered Rs 1.5 crore in cash from one doctor alone, he informed.

The documents, unearthed during the operation, showed that the doctors did not disclose their actual income to the IT authorities, he added.

Nawaz Sharif still an offender despite pardon: Pak Supreme Court

Islamabad, Feb.2 (ANI): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that though former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been pardoned in the case relating to his disqualification from contesting the by-elections, he still remains an offender.According to The News, Justice Sheikh Hakim Ali observed that Sharif was still an offender and not eligible to contest the elections.Earlier, during the hearing, Sharif's lawyer Akram Sheikh argued that the case against his client does not have legality to stand in.....
