IIMs may defer issuing of list in view of SC quota decision

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The IIMs may delay the admission list by a few days to accommodate the OBC students in the light of today's Supreme Court judgement upholding the 27 per cent quota for them in higher education.

An indication to this effect was given by IIM, Ahmedabad Director Sammer Barua today.

He said the selection process was almost over, but the IIMs may delay the finalisation of the list in view of the judgement.

''The institute was planning to issue the admission list by April 11 but this decision is taken by all institutes together, so I think we have to go back to other institutes and see whether we can defer the decision by some time to study the judgment,'' he told a TV channel.

The Supreme Court this morning cleared the decks for implementation of 27 per cent quota for OBCs in Centrally run educational institutions of higher education and upheld the constitutional validity of the 93rd Constitutional Amendment.

The apex court also ruled that if the basis of reservation is caste, the creamy layer among these castes must be excluded from the benefits of reservation policy.
