High Commissioner urges Indian farmers to set up JV in Mozambique

Hyderabad, Apr 10 (UNI) Promising lands on a long lease free of cost to progressive Indian farmers in Mozambique, its High Commissioner Carlos Agostinho do Rosaria urged them to come in a big way for setting up joint ventures in his country.

Highlighting the investment promotion policy of Republic of Mozambique to members of Consortium of Indian Farmers Associations (CIFA) here, Mr Rosaria said his country had 16 rivers, 36 million hectares of arable land and surplus power.

''We look for progressive Indian farmers to establish joint ventures to raise agricultural production and get access to the integrated Southern African Development Community market,'' he said.

The concessional period for lands alloted would be initially for 50 years and could be extended for another 50 years, he said, and sought the expertise of CIFA members in agriculture fields and allied activities including cattle breeding and prawn and fish farming.

He expressed amazement at the multiple uses of coconut and its byproducts.

CIFA Secretary General R Chengal Reddy, accepting the proposal, said there was a great scope for collaboration between farmers of both the countries in instituting joint ventures.
