Deve Gowda alleges violation of poll code

Hubli, Apr 10 (UNI) Former Prime Minister and Janta Dal(S) President H D Deve Gowda today alleged that despite the announcement of elections in Karnataka, transfers of officials were going on at the behest of Congress leaders.

If transfers continue then there was a possibility that the elections would not be held in a peaceful manner, he said while speaking at a mass marriage function here.

Mr Gowda expressed the fear that free and fair polls could not be expected in the state.

He said his party would provide assistance to the people affected by floods and unseasonal rains last month in Navalgund, Naragund and Ron taluks.

Containing rise in food grain price is very difficult: Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Apr 10 : At a time when consumers in India are bearing the blunt of spiralling inflation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said that containing soaring food grain price is difficult. 60 per cent cast votes in Nepal elections

Kathmandu, Apr 10 : Around sixty per cent of electorate exercised their franchise on Thursday in the crucial Constituent Assembly elections in Nepal. According to reports, polling concluded successfully. Election Commission officials said that except a few incidents, the election was a "big success" and that voter turnout in majority of the districts was "more than anticipated." The EC is yet to release official figures. Arghakhanchi district had over 70 percent turnout, Rukum 60 percent, Surkhet 65 percent, Bardiya 67.....

India hails Nepal election as 'welcome and historic step'

New Delhi, Apr 10 : Soon after the voting for the crucial Constituent Assembly elections in Nepal ended, the Indian Government on Thursday hailed it as a "welcome and historic step" towards realising the aspirations of the people of Nepal for a democratic future. "This happy outcome is a product of the determination of the people of Nepal, with significant contributions by the political parties and the Election Commission of Nepal," statement by official spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry said......
