Chouhan served notice for model code

Bhopal, Apr 10 (UNI) The Election Commission today issued a notice to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for reportedly mentioning about 'Annapurna scheme' during campaigning for the Betul Lok Sabha bypoll.

EC sources said the Chief Minister has been given time to reply by 1700 hours tomorrow.

Under the scheme -- approved during the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha -- wheat is provided to poor at Rs three per kilo.

Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner's office has issued a notice to the Public Relations Commissioner over release of certain advertisements in newspapers.

In both the cases, the Congress is the complainant.

In a statement issued here, state BJP President claimed that the party had not violated the poll code and the Congress was unnecessarily raking the issue. He said things would be clear in Mr Chouhan's reply.

In a statement issued here, Opposition leader Jamuna Devi alleged that the Chief Minister deliberately mentioned the scheme during the last phase of poll campaigning.
