Chaudhary seeks amendment in the norms for grant of compensation

Jaipur, Apr 10 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Hema Ram Chaudhary has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention in amending the norms for grant of compensation for ground frost and hailstorm related crop damages from the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF).

Mr Chaudhary had written a letter to the Prime Minister conveying to him the Congress' concern over huge crop damages sustained by farmers in Rajasthan due to prolonged cold wave and ground frost in January this year and unseasonal rains and hailstorm recently.

Mr Chaudhary informed the Prime Minister that the Congress had raised the issue of huge crop damages due to nature's fury during the recently concluded Budget session of Rajasthan Assembly and forced the Vasundhara Raje Government to announce a Rs 126 crore package for farmers.

However, the benefit of the the package could not reach to farmers as ''the BJP led state government indulged in political gimmicks'' and was still waiting for revenue survey (Girdawari) report over crop damages.

Moreover, the saffron party was also trying to create confusion among farmers by accusing the Congress led Government at the Centre, for non grant of the compensation, Mr Chaudhary said.

''Therefore, our government at the Centre should take initiatives for providing relief by amending the norms of CRF for grant of compensation to ground frost and hailstorm related damages, ''Mr Chaudhary pleaded.
