Carter calls Nepal poll as ground-breaking event

Kathmandu, Apr 10: Former US President Jimmy Carter has termed the Nepalese Constituent Assembly (CA) election as a ground-breaking event which is being closely watched by the whole world.

Sporadic incidents of violence are common during the time of a historic change, he added.

Nepalis were deciding for their future by participating in the election, he said, expressing confidence that a new Nepal would be formed after it. He observed 14 of the 25 polling centres in Kathmandu valley. Various international election observers have been monitoring polls across the nation. There were reports of postponement of elections in some polling centres including in Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Baglung, Arghakhanchi, Rautahat, Mahottari and Sarlahi districts. Despite sporadic incidents, election was being held peacefully.
