Thane (Maharshtra), Apr 8: A dreaded dacoit wanted by the police in connection with several crimes, was gunned down by the thane district rural police at nalla sopara late this evening.

The thane police rural headquarters confirmed the killing.

''The dacoit was aged around 30 and his name was Nizamuddin alias Firoz,'' the police said but could not provide any further details.

Kamrup (Assam), Dec 6: With a fresh outbreak of bird flu in poultry being detected in Assam, authorities are prepared to start the culling of thousands of chickens.Reports say the virus has spread to the districts of Barpeta and Nalbari from Hajo in Kamrup District, where it was first reported.
