Beedi bundles worth Rs 3.5 lakh seized from lorry

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 8: Police seized beedi bundles worth Rs 3.5 lakh, meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka, from a lorry at Siruganur on the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai National Highway, near here.

Acting on tip-off, a police team stopped the lorry, conducted a search and confiscated the beedi bundles late last night.

Five people were taken into custody in this connection.

Preliminary enquires revealed that the beedi bundles, purchased in Chennai, were meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka through the Rameswaram coast, police said.
