TDP committee to study people's sentiment on Telangana

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (UNI) The Opposition Telugu Desam party (TDP) today announced that it would constitute a 'Five Member Committee' to study the people's sentiment and the TDP cadres' opinion on Telangana at grassroot levels.

TDP president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who presided over the politburo meeting at the party head office 'NTR Trust Bhavan', constituted a five member committee comprising senior leaders, T Devendar Goud, Y Ramakrishnudu, KE Krsihana Murthy, K Yerran Naidu and N Janardhan Reddy.

The Committee would tour the state and conduct a study on the Telangana issue and the recent political developments taking place in the state, including the of Telugu matinee idol Chiranjeevi in Andhra Pradesh politics, floating a new regional party.

The TDP, which is opposed to separate Telangana state, now making efforts to take a 'postive stand' on the statehood as the next general elections were scheduled to be held of early 2009. The TDP had lost its presence in many districts in Telangana region in 2004 general elections after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) forged an alliance with Congress.

The TDP's debacle in the last elections forced many Telangana TDP leaders, including former Home Minister T Devendar Goud to raise the Telangana issue recently.

Prakash Karat meets Jayalalithaa
