Rahul pretends to be a Dalit messiah : Mayawati

Lucknow, Apr 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today launched a scathing attack on Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, saying he was scared of the Bahujan Samaj Party's progress in the state and, therefore, pretending to be a ''Dalit messiah'' by spending nights eating at their homes.

The BSP was fulfilling its promises made to public and is following the path of 'Sarvajan Hitaye, Sarvajan Sukhaye', the Chief Minister maintained during an election campaign in the state in support of her party candidates from Khalilabad and Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituencies, which go to the bypolls on April 12.

Reiterating her party's stand in the favour of trifurcation of UP, Ms Mayawati said, ''Purvanchal, Bundelkhand and Western UP should be given separate statehood. We have also written to the Centre for the same.'' She alleged that the bypolls were taking place due to the turncoats, who had left the BSP and re-contesting on different party tickets. ''It is beyond doubt that these turncoats would forfeit their security deposits in the polls, she predicted.

Countering the opposition charges, especially of Samajwadi Party, of her government working under political vendetta, the Chief Minister said had it been true, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav would have been behind bars.

'' The BSP government is not playing any game of political rivalry and opposition's allegations are totally false and baseless,'' the CM said.

Her party had no hard feelings for any one and instead treated everyone fairly, she added.

The CM claimed that crime had taken a backseat during her regime and most criminals fled the state.

The BSP government was dealing strictly with crime and criminals without any bias and it did not even hesitate in sending her own party leader Umakant Yadav to jail, she underlined.

Holding the Congress and the BJP responsible for the dismal condition of the state, Ms Mayawati said, '' Both parties have ruled the state and the Centre, but did nothing for its development.'' During the long Congress and the BJP regime, the state had made no progress, however, a remarkable increase was noticed in the unemployment rate, which pushed the youth to migrate to other states for winning their bread, the Chief Minister asserted.
