"Police should discharge their duties with no heed to provocation

Barrackpore, Apr 7 (UNI) West Bengal Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta and Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty today asked the police department to discharge their duties without being influenced by political pressure or money.

''Police should investigate any matter impartially without considering the political colour or being influenced by provocation or money,'' the ministers said.

Inaugurating an office building for the Sub-divisional Police Officer for Belgharia police sub-division at Panihati in North 24 Parganas, the Finance Minister also directed the police administration to make necessary preparations to redress the traffic control system in the district to avoid accidents, which has become a regular affair in the city.

He said the money should not be a criterion in implementing such plans as Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, after discussing with the Transport Minister had envisaged plans to build infrastructures for improvement in the traffic system.

He also suggested that the police should take into confidence the trade unions related with the vehicular traffic systems.

The Finance Minister also told police to take stern actions against the law violating drivers.

Dr Dasgupta was also critical of accumulating money from individuals as the local civic body leadership had ''bagged money'' for the construction of the building meant for police administration from some of the business organisations here.

Mr Chakraborty, however, told police to improve police-people relations in all respect, without surrendering before the political highhandedness.

Inspector General of Police, Presidency Range, Soumen Mitra, Inspector General of Police, South Bengal, Surojit Kar Purakaystha, Superintendent of Police, North 24 Parganas, Supratim Sarkar, local MP Amitabha Nandy were among the others who spoke on the occasion.
