PDP announces PAC to slect candidates for J

Srinagar, Apr 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a partner in the coalition government in the state, has announced that the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) would also serve as the PDP Parliamentary Board for the upcoming assembly elections.

The Parliamentary Board has been entrusted with the job of selecting candidates for the assembly elections, a spokesman of the PDP said.

He said in this connection, the board would hold its first meeting here on May 3 2008.

Besides Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, other members of the Parliamentary Board are Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Abdul Aziz Zargar, Tariq Hameed Karra, Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Sardar Rangil Singh, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Dillawar Mir, Ved Mahajan, Master Tassaduq Hussain, Sardar T S Bajwa and Nissar Ahmad Khan.

Election to assembly is due later this year when the present house completes its six year term.

Celestial wedding of Lord Sri Venkateswara performed in Chennai

Chennai, April 7 : Hundred of thousands of people converged here on Sunday to attend the symbolic celestial wedding of Sri Venkateswara with his two consorts Padmavati and Laxmi, as their processional idols were carried here. The idols made of precious stones belong to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The ceremony was organized as "Kalyana Mahotsavam" the symbolic wedding of the God Sri Venkateswara, popularly known as Lord Balaji. Organised at a heavily decorated venue.....

Rupee ends almost flat at 39.96/97 against USD

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) The Rupee today ended almost flat at 39.96/97 against the US Dollar from its previous close of 39.95/96 despite the Indian bourses posting smart gains. The partially convertible Indian Rupee started the day on a firm note on hopes the central bank may allow the rupee to gain to rein in inflation, driven by high global commodity prices, but dollar buying by oil refiners limited its gain against the greenback in.....

Rs 2,096 crore worth trade at NCDEX

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) Around 497 members (2,424 users) participated in trading at the NCDEX today upto 1700 hrs and volumes traded were Rs 2,096 crore (one-way). There were more than 59,646 trades put through by them, a National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) release here said. Active trades were high in soya oil, chana, rape mustard seed, guar seed and soyabean. On April 5, 473 members (2,273 users) participated in trading and put through.....
