Metals, energy and agro-commodities gain

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) The composite index of metals, energy and agro-commodities gained 2703.56 points at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) today.

MCX Energy gained 1.07 pc at 3214.49 points.

Bullion contracts showed a weak tendency overall. Gold July 08 contract shrank by 0.29 pc at Rs 11,835 per 10 grams. Silver July 08 contract was up by 0.44 pc at Rs 23,488 per kg.

Nickel May 08 contract fell by 2.07 pc at Rs 1158.50 per kg.

Crude oil May 08 contract advanced by 1.24 pc at Rs 4,241 per barrel and natural gas April 08 contract by 1.26 pc at Rs 378.70 per mmBTU.

Refsoyoil, chana, turmeric, sugarsklp, kapaskhali and jute contracts looked southwards. Refsoyoil June 08 contract shed 3.92 pc at Rs 546.70 per 10 kgs.

Cardamom April 08 contract topped the list of gainers with a rise of 3.47 pc at Rs 640.50 per kg, the MCX release said.

Sotheby's halts auction of Guru's armour plate

Patiala, Apr 7 (UNI) Auction house, Sotheby's has halted the auction of a rare steel armour plate, believed to be that of tenth Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh. Badal demands Rs 400 per quintal as bonus on wheat

Chandigarh, Apr 7 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today demanded a bonus of Rs 400 per quintal on wheat procured by the Government agencies. He also strongly pleaded for putting in place a permanent mechanism for deciding lucrative prices of food grains and other agriculture products. He made these demands during a meeting with Union Agriculture Minuster Sharad Pawar. Mr Badal suggested that either the MSP should be linked with Consumer.....

Two soil testing labs to be set up in Samastipur

Samastipur, Apr 7 (UNI) Two soil sample test labs will be set up in Samastipur district of North Bihar at the cost of Rs 37 lakhs to promote agriculture in the area. Speaking to media persons here today, District Magistrate(DM) Asangwa Chua said that both the soil sample test labs would be set up at Patori and Hasanpur in the district and the construction work would be completed in the current financial year.
