Mah to have surplus power 2013-14: Valse-Patil

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) Even as Maharashtra is reeling under the load shedding of 14 to 16 hours per day, Energy Minister Dilip Valse-Patil today continued to paint a rosy picture of the power scenario in the state, saying that with implementation of five year plan of Rs 60,000 crore, it would have surplus power of 384 megawatt by 2013-14.

Replying to the discussion on power situation in the state, initiated by Leader of the Opposition Pandurang Phundkar and others, Mr Patil said the power generation was expected to reach upto 29,924 MW by that time.

He said of the Rs 60,000 crore, the half amount would be spent on power infrastructure, Rs 18,000 for transmission while remaining for generation.

He said the government had so far changed 35,909 transformers and succeeded in controlling the power pilferage from 33 to 22 per cent and company could save Rs 1,376 crore.

Action against illicit liquor dens increases excise income

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said the excise income of the state has increased by Rs 1,700 crore with action initiated against illicit liquor dens and their operators. Indo-China trade through Nathu La to start as per schedule

Gangtok, Apr 7 (UNI) The third edition of annual border trade between Sikkim and Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China through the 14,400 -ft Nathu La pass in East Sikkim will commence undeterred as per schedule. The Indo-China trade via Nathu La is expected to start on the scheduled date of May 1. However, China's view on this year's trade was yet to be known.
