Kerala to study impact of climate change

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 7 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the government will set up a mechanism to study the impact of climate change.

Expressing serious concern over the outbreak of epidemics caused by climate change, in the State, he said it should be studied scientifically and remedial measures put in place.

He was speaking at the launch of anti-epidemic action plan on the World Health Day today.

Kerala was once known for its effective healthcare system and cleanliness, Mr Achutanandan said and added disposing solid waste had become a major concern today.

It was a big challenge to keep the environ hygenic and clean. A major concern was the waste generated by hospitals including toxic materials and cyber waste. Both should be disposed in proper way so that it did not pose any danger.

On the hospital waste, the existing rules would be enforced strictly, he said.

Mr Achutanandan said the Science and Information Technology Department would be asked to evolve methods for handling the cycber waste.
