JMM demands to honour Urdu poet

Jamshedpur, Apr 7 (UNI) Jharkhand Mukti Morcha secretary and famous Urdu writer Nasar Firdausi today demanded that renowned Urdu poet and novelist Mahendra Singh alias Azad Gurdaspuri should be honoured by Jharkhand and Punjab governments for his contribution to the Urdu literature.

In a letter to Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi, Dr Firdausi urged that Mr Razi should contact Punjab Higher Education Minister Upenderjit Kaur in this regard and has also asked the concerned persons in Jharkhand government to honour the poet.

Dr Firdausi said that Gurdaspuri, who is an engineer by prpofession, was born in Punjab's Gurdaspur and was now staying at Adityapur near here.

'' Several poems and writings of Gurdaspuri have appeared in Urdu literature and magazines, not only in India but also in Pakistan and Bangladesh, in the past fifty years,'' he said.

Gurdaspuri had become an international Urdu poet and writer. He was also honoured by many Urdu organisations in the country and he had proven that Urdu was not a language of a particular community but has been recongnised as an important Indian language, Dr Firdausi said.
