Jimmy Carter arrives in Nepal to lead his Centre's observers



Kathmandu, Apr 7 : Former US president and co-founder of the Carter Center, Jimmy Carter, arrived on Monday in Kathmandu leading a 60-member international election observer mission that will monitor the April 10 Constituent Assembly elections.

Carter, who is accompanied by his wife Rosalyn, will personally involve in election monitoring.

Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala hosted a tea reception for Jimmy Carter.

During his stay in Nepal, the former US president will meet leaders of political parties, Election Commission officials, civil society representatives and members of the election observation groups.

The Carter Center has deployed its long-term observers in Nepal since March 2007, nepalnews.com reported.
