Chandigarh to become solar city by 2012 : Adviser

Chandigarh, Apr 7 (UNI) Chandigarh is preparing to become the first Solar City of the country by 2012, Union Territory Administrator's Adviser Pradip Mehra said today on the World Health Day.

The Adviser has issued directions to officers of the Administration in this regard, he said while speaking at a symposium on "Protecting Health from Climate Change" organized by the Indian Public Health Association at PGI here.

In his inaugural address, he said that people should accept that they were in the middle of climate change and the frequency of natural disasters was increasing at an alarming pace.

He said that with economic development accompanied with industrial revolution had led to the unprecedented development and great increase in welfare activities and thus has increased the comfort levels. But consequent to it is the huge consumption of fuels leading to Global Warming, he added.

While addressing the gathering he discussed the consequences of Global warming.

Talking of the role played by the Administration, the Adviser said that soon 1100 CNG three-wheelers would be moving on the roads of Chandigarh and Mass Rapid Transit System was also in progress which would help in reducing the Carbon foot prints in the city.

Stage set for Indo-German Naval exercises

No restriction on production of ethanol in sugar mills: Minister

Patna, Apr 7(UNI) Minister of State for Sugarcane Nitish Mishra today said the Centre had clarified that there was no restriction on production of ethanol in existing sugar mills in Bihar. Talking to newpersons, Mr Mishra said here that Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had written a letter informing the Bihar government that there was no restriction on production of ethanol in the existing sugar mills. Eight injured in bomb explosions in Nepal

Kathmandu, Apr 7 (uni) At least eight people were injured in explosions in three places across the country where the Nepali Congress was due to hold electoral assemblies this afternoon. Five people were injured when a bomb went off at Ghantaghar in Birgunj when NC rally was underway and the condition of two of them was reported to be critical, Kantipur said, quoting its local reporter. The injured were undergoing treatment at the Narayani.....
