Breakthrough in robbery case, kingpin arrested

Itanagar, Apr 7 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh Police today claimed to have busted the gang involved in the robbery on Doimukh-Sagalee road on April 4 with the arrest of its kingpin Rakji Natam.

Police said here that acting on a tip-off, one Rakji Natam alias Takia Mara was apprehended yesterday from a rented house at Nirjuli.

One US-made pistol, two live rounds of cartridges, a magazine and Rs 4,68,500 was seized from his possession, police said.

Natam and one of his associate had allegedly looted Rs 23.27 lakh from a private collector of the Sagalee branch of Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank when he was on his way to Sagalee from Doimukh in a vehicle.

Natam, a seasoned criminal, was also wanted by Daporijo police in Upper Subansiri district for various offences including murder and theft, police said.

The investigating team had earlier recovered the unregistered motorcycle used by the robbers from a deep gorge near the place of robbery.

Efforts were on to nab the other accomplice and recover the remaining amount, police added.
