Bihar govt appeals agitating lawyers to call off strike

Patna, Apr 7 (UNI) Bihar government today appealed the agitating lawyers of the state to withdraw their indefinite strike called in protest against hike in the court fees.

After meeting the delegation of the agitating lawyers, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, heading the ministerial committee constituted to look into the objections raised on the court fee hike, appealed the association of the striking lawyers to suspend their agitation. He also said the government is reviewing the issue in totality.

The ministerial committee was reviewing the suggestions made by the delegation of lawyers regarding court fee hike, he added.

Mr Modi said all aspects would be discussed minutely and the government would consider the points raised by the striking lawyers.

Meanwhile, after attending the meeting, the district Bar Association Secretary Arvind Kumar Singh said during negotiation, the lawyer's delegation placed the points of hitch before the ministerial committee and requested to withdraw the court fee hike.

He claimed that Mr Modi agreed over the points and assured to amend the related act.

Regarding Mr Modi's appeal to call off the strike, Mr Singh said a meeting of the asociation had been convened tomorrow to decide the future course of action.

Apart from the delegation of the lawyers and Advocate General P K Sahi, the ministerial committee meeting was attended by Mr Modi, Excise Minister Sudha Srivastav, Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Water Resources Minister Ramashrya Prasad Singh and Enegry Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav.

The mext meeting would be held on April 10.
