Bangla Indian HC escapes unhurt in accident near Dhaka

Dhaka, Apr 7 (UNI) Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty had a miraculous escape when his car met with an accident near Ashulia, 30 kms from Dhaka today.

His official car was badly damaged in the accident.

Mr Pinak, his wife and two other Indian officials were returning to Dhaka after a visit to Gede-Darshana rail stations on the eve of Dhaka-Kolkata passenger train service from April 14.

The accident took place at about 1400 hrs (local time) when a bus from opposite direction was trying to overtake another bus. The High Commissioner's car was being escorted by a police car. As the escort car whistled, the driver of the overtaking bus got panicked.

In this situation, both the High Commissioner's car and escort car pressed sudden breaks. As a result, the High Commissioner's car hit the escort car and the bus from opposite direction also hit the High Commissioner's car which was badly damaged.

Counselor of the Indian High Commission Ajit Gupta told UNI that High Commissioner Chakravarty, his wife and other officials are safe and returned to Dhaka in a separate car.

Police seized the bus and filed a case with Ashulia police station.

Capt Chetanya's police remand extended for five days
