Badal exhorts lawyers to play pro-active role

Chandigarh, Apr 7 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the lawyers to play a pro-active role in the delivery of justice to the people.

Presiding over a function organised by the Bar Association of Punjab and Haryana High Court here at High Court complex, Mr Badal said that "lawyers are the officers of the court and have a great responsibility towards the success of the judicial system." Speaking on the occasion Mr Badal appreciated Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Vijendra Jain for his pioneering role in starting the first Mobile Court in Punjab at Talwara besides his initiative for upgrading the infrastructure in the judicial complexes in the state.

The Chief Minister assured the Chief Justice that the state government would provide all financial assistance and cooperation for the construction of judicial complexes and lawyers' chambers in the state.

He reiterated that it was an endeavour of the state government to provide congenial atmosphere to the judiciary and lawyers to discharge their duties efficiently.

Responding to the demands raised by Punjab&Haryana High Court Bar Association President Dr Anmol Rattan Sidhu, the Chief Minister presented a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the Association as Punjab's share towards the corpus of Rs 5 crore setup by the Bar Association for the welfare of lawyers.

Addressing on the occasion Chief Justice Vijender Jain thanked Mr Badal for making a budgetary provision of Rs 35 crore for the construction of new judicial complexes in the state during the current financial year.

Massive fire guts down over hundred shops in Jodhpur

Jodhpur, Mar 18 (ANI): A massive fire gutted down over hundred shops in Jodhpur during the early morning hours of Wednesday.Eyewitnesses said that 150-200 shops were completely destroyed.Residents said that the police team arrived on time.
